Oberfeld status report and get-and-work-together

Status report - L+15d

Two weeks only after the übergabe and so much activity already. Our plots (row 2 parcels 8 and 9) are progressing well and very soon it should be possible to collect the first rädischen and salat.

The shifts are established and the usual stuff from the club is now in the plot (our famous yellow chair, the box with gloves and tools and a map of what is planted where). And this year we have nice wooden sticks with the description of what is in each row.

But there is a lot of stuff to do as well: weeds are growing everywhere (some rows are difficult to clean yet, but in others it is easy to distinguish the good from the bad and ugly plants), Kartoffelkäfern arrived earlier than ever and we need to plant the tasty but delicate vegetables like Kürbis and Zuchinnis. For this reason, it has been propose to organise a get-and-work together this Saturday, 19/05, at 11:00.

Last but not least a few reminders:
  • Our plots were a bit dry in the last weeks, specially the wirsling and weis/rotköln. We should not water too much but not too little, so if you see during your shift that the soil is very dry, don't be afraid to water.  This should not longer be a problem for this week after today rain anyway.
  • Specially during these critical early weeks and later during the hottest part of the season, if you cannot got during your shift, ask for help from the sprinters by e-mail or whatsapp.
  • Kartoffelkäfer want our potatoes. Kill them all!
  • Bad weeds have to be removed. In doubt about what is good and what is bad, let it grow until it is more clear (there is as well a very useful book in the cottage with the look-and-feel of the stuff planted in the Oberfeld). And if you are scared, you can always hack among rows (but be careful with double rows, as some of them are a bit scarce and could be mistaken).
  • Last but not least, this is a social club, so feel free to share your pictures and stories in the mailing list, whatsapp or even in the blog as Mikel did last year (contact somebody in the committee if you need publisher rights for the blog).
And a few photos to close this first status report.
